Fresh off Tuesday’s impressive results for progressives across the state, the Texas Organizing Project (TOP) congratulates endorsed Dallas County candidates Jasmine Crockett (Texas HD 100) and Audra Riley (Dallas County Criminal District Court No. 3) for making it to runoffs, and looks forward to powering them to victory in May.
“In House District 100, TOP and Texas Working Families Party teamed up to endorse Jasmine Crockett after seeing in her a progressive community champion who will make tangible improvements in the lives of HD 100 residents once in office,” said TOP Deputy Director Brianna Brown. “She’s an experienced civil rights attorney and longtime justice reform advocate who recognizes that bold, progressive change is needed to fully address the priorities of Black and Latino communities.”
TOP ran the largest grassroots field operation in the Texas primary, targeting mostly Black and Latino voters in Texas’ three largest counties — Harris, Dallas and Bexar. In all, across the state, the community organizing group reached out to 195,000 voters, including 72,000 on Election Day alone, which helped secure wins for candidates across Texas committed to the structural change our communities need to thrive.
“We know that as an organization we have to continue to play in primary politics to have a say in who’s on the ballot in the general. Tuesday’s results are a testament to the strength of our ability to connect with voters using a progressive message focused on bringing major reforms to our criminal justice system,” said Brown. “We know Jasmine and Audra are committed to doing just that, as well as putting more power in the hands of working people of color in Dallas County. We’re ready to win these runoffs.”
Election Day for the Texas Democratic primary runoffs is slated for Tuesday, May 26.
